Provident Living Academy (PLA) is a Distance Learning Program based in Upstate New York. We combine the mentorship and accountability aspects of a private school with the freedom and flexibility of parent guided curriculum.
Parents who enroll their students in PLA have the right to establish the curriculum and projects their children will pursue with assistance and recommendations from a mentor. Family based learning ensures that children will be taught according to their own unique style, interests, rate of absorption and maturity level. Mentors help parents and students to set and achieve their educational goals. Periodic reporting and testing to meet NYS standards helps families to review their progress. Parents and students will receive feedback on their individual programs and needs.
The combined decades of knowledge brought to the school from our mentors' homeschool and real world experience have helped us to develop a practical program for those desiring home based education with private school benefits (please refer to the Board of Directors page).
We believe that every child is different and each one learns in a different way. In order to equip a child with a world class education, many methods must be employed. We encourage the use of classic books, some traditional textbooks, software, provident living skills development, projects, unit studies, workbooks, hands-on manipulatives, and utilizing the phenomenal resources of our public libraries. Children learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process. We schedule time, not content.
